THE FUTURE SHOULD NOT BEGIN IN 12TH GRADE.
Future readiness develops over time. Students need repeated opportunities to understand themselves, explore possibility, build relationships, experiment, learn and make increasingly intentional choices.
Future by DesignTM K–12 Edition creates a developmental pathway that grows with students rather than introducing career planning as a late-stage event.
GRADES 6 – 8 — DISCOVER & EXPLORE
Students identify interests, experiences, emerging strengths and personal assets; expand awareness of careers and problems worth solving; begin seeing adults, peers and community members as part of a future network.
GRADES 9 –10 — IMAGINE & EXPAND
Students explore multiple possible futures, connect learning to opportunity, use AI responsibly to investigate pathways, build social capital and begin small experiments through projects, experiences and conversations.
GRADES 11–12 — DESIGN & ACTIVATE
Students narrow priorities without prematurely narrowing possibility; strengthen networks; build a Future BlueprintTM; complete a 90-Day SprintTM; and articulate a Future PitchTM that connects who they are with what they want to learn, create and contribute.
BEYOND CONVENTIONAL CAREER READINESS
The model does not begin with occupational categories or a single test. It integrates identity + imagination + belonging + networks + AI exploration + entrepreneurship + experimentation + action. Students learn a process they can reuse as technology, industries and their own interests change.
FOR SCHOOLS & DISTRICTS
Implementation can include student cohorts, educator/facilitator training, family/community engagement, employer participation, licensed materials, developmental measurement and district-wide scaling.
